Japan is striving to harness information technology to help revive the economy as well as looking to bolster cyber-security in the run-up to the 2020 Tokyo Olympic and Paralympic Games. In the fiscal year to March 31 there were 5.08 million cases of irregular access to central government information systems, including outright cyber-attacks, up from 1.08 million cases the previous year, Japan's first white paper on cyber security showed on Thursday.
